BMW i4 Concept Revealed; Production To Begin In 2021.

The BMW i4 is an all-electric four-door fastback styled sedan under development by German automobile manufacturer BMW, marketed as a four-door coupé with sales commencing in 2021. It was first unveiled as a concept car named i Vision Dynamics at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The i4 Concept showcases crisp, smooth lines and the exterior paint shade Frozen Light Copper reprises a colour nuance displayed by the BMW Vision iNEXT and showcases the interplay of surfaces to visually stunning effect.

Scheduled to be showcased at the 2020 Geneva Motor show, BMW has finally revealed the i4 concept. This is the company's first all-electric model in the premium midsize class and looks sporty for sure. It gets 4 doors and provides the functionality of a Gran Coupe, of course with zero emissions. The i4 Concept showcases crisp, smooth lines and the exterior paint shade Frozen Light Copper reprises a colour nuance displayed by the BMW Vision iNEXT and showcases the interplay of surfaces to visually stunning effect. It gets the kidney grille but now it plays the role as an intelligence panel, the mouldings in the side skirts concealing the battery technology, and the diffuser elements in the rear end, which fill the design space vacated by exhaust tailpipes and enhance aerodynamic efficiency.

The fifth generation of BMW eDrive also brings a newly designed high-voltage battery with the very latest battery cell technology. The version of the battery developed for the BMW i4 impresses with its extremely slim construction and optimised energy density. It weighs roughly 550 kilograms, has an energy content of around 80 kWh and achieves an estimated range of 600 km.

New BMW i4 electric motors and range

The BMW i4 Concept is powered by a single electric motor that BMW claims will produce 530hp – as much as some of its petrol V8 engines. This means the i4 Concept can sprint from 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 124mph. The i4 Concept’s 80kWh batteries can store enough juice for you to drive 373 miles between charges. That’s significantly more than the 322 miles a Tesla Model 3 Long Range can deliver and just a few miles shy of what the Tesla Model S can manage. BMW claims you can recharge the i4 Concept’s batteries from empty to 80% full in just 35 minutes using a 150kW charger.
Its 530hp electric motor will blast the i4 Concept from 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds.

New BMW i4 Concept price and release
date

The BMW i4 Concept won’t ever go on sale, but it gives us a good idea of what to expect from the upcoming i4. This fully electric saloon should make its public appearance sometime in 2020 and is expected to go on sale later in 2021. Expect to hand over from around £50,000 for the BMW i4 – around the same as a Tesla Model 3 Long Range.
